    Question 350 Griffin & Howe

    Murphy

I reload for my 350 G&H and was wondering what some good powder choices would be for this cartridge. I am using IMR 4350 right now but would like to try some others if possible. I can't find any reloading data for it but was also wondering if you could use the 358 Norma or 358 STA data/powders?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Default Not sure of what powders

but the loading data for the other cartridges is .358 Norma or STA is too much for this cartridge. The 350 G&H is closer to the 35 Whelen, but I'm not suggesting the same data.
I had a 350 Rigby for a while and started with .35 Whelen starting loads and worked up, but the cartridge was fussy and it never did shoot well, so I sold it. Hope this helps.

The 35 Griffin & Howe is the 375 H&H case with the shoulder expanded. Some of these rifles are marked 350 Griffin & Howe, same caliber one less zero.

I think this is what you have. My Howell book gives the 35 G&H as displacing 136 grains of water. Other 35's as follows.

    35 Newton--123 grains
    358 Norma--122 grains
    35 Winchester--91 grains
    358 STA--128 grains
    358-404--130 grains (2.500")
    358 Nukalpiaq--128 grains (My calculations)
    35 Whelen--98 grains
    375H&H--132 grains

H4350 and RL-19 would be a good start. I have also used H4831 sc with 250 and heavier bullets. I also think you can start aith 358 STA starting data. If your rifle is older, such as an original rifle I would reduce further but you have probably already loaded it enough to know where you need to be with this one.

Also you should get in on the RL-17 buy, that is the correct burning rate and should work well. Another to try would be Vihta N160/560. I will use H4350, N160, RL19, H4831 and RL-17 if I can get some for the load development of the 358 Nukalpiaq.

What is your rifle? I know you told me but I have forgotten.
Is there nothing so sacred on this earth that you aren't willing to kill or die for?

    Default My bad

Apologies for the misinformation. For some reason I related the G&H with the Rigby. Again, my apologies.

Mine is Custom made on a Whitworth action with a 26" barrel. It is based on the 375 H&H cartridge. I have some RL-19 here at the house so I will have to try and find some data for the 358 STA using RL-19.

The rifle is a very nice shooter and I like shooting the 250grn Swift-A-Frame. I killed a moose and goat with it and was very pleased with its performance. Also how is your 358 Nukalpiaq coming along/shooting?

Also I might check into that group buy of RL-17. I hear it does great in the 300 WSM also. Thanks again for your time and help.
