Default size motor for a driftboat

    Hi,
Does anyone have an idea what size motor would be best for a 16' Aluminum Hyde driftboat?
Just looking to putz around from pt A to B, not waterski.
    Thanks much,
    Jeff

I used a 5HP honda last year on my drift boat, yup we putzed along. The problem with drift boats is no stern area so the stern just squats down & the bow goes up and all your going to do is go slow.

I ran a 8 hp Nissan on the back of my 16' alum. fishrite. At full power it would push the stern down and take water. I have been told there are mount brackets that can be added that will angle the shaft back under the stern and help with this problem. Any way the 8 hp would get me around at 5 or 6 knots.

Better build a nice big square stern to hold up all those ponies
