Default Have moose dropped their antlers yet?

Hoping to head out hunting for antlers soon. Am I early on this venture?
With all of the snow we've been getting, I'm hoping they aren't covered up before I get to them.

Default may be a little early...

last year i watched a nice bull up here for a couple months, he ended up dropping both antlers on the 14th of january.
he was around 45"-48"... depending on how i mount them

Default I figured as much Dave

Last year I was too early and then too late!

I've got a few spots scoped out, but they are a bit of a drive for me. I have yet to snatch up a moose antler...I'll be pumped when I do!!!

It is still a little early. When I fly in december all the bulls still have their full sets, at least the ones I have found around anchorage and the valley.

    Default early

There is a December bull hunt in Dec. in Bristol Bay. We always saw lots of bulls. The big ones might start shedding around the end of Dec. The earliest shed I found was the day after Christmas. It was off a huge bull that I estimated close to 70". I sold that one side of the shed for $450. Merry Christmas to me!

I saw one in October on Ft Rich that had shed both his antlers. When I first spotted him I thought he was a cow, he was huge bodied and was bedded next to a road. When I got closer to him I put the binos on him and saw petticles (sp?) where his antlers should have been. That was the only one I saw and every bull since then has had antlers. I would start looking around the end of Dec and into January.

    Default bulls

Ive been flying around the Tannana Flats the past couple days and all the bulls still have their horns, saw some real hogs. I know where to start looking in 3 or 4 weeks, assuming we dont get a lot of snow

    Default Still in Anchorage

I saw a small paddle horn by my house in Anchorage on Thanksgiving, and another 40" bull yesterday on my way to the Airport. So they are still sporting head gear. Lets hope they still have thier antlers on December 15th.

    Cool antlers

I usually do good with sheds the first wk of jan. Couple yrs ago I found two anlter pairs right next to each other, not to mention a few spread around. Found some pretty nice ones

Saw a small bull still chasing cows today. I've seen 6 bulls around Anchorage the last 4 days all were fully intact. +1 on Jan being the time to look hopefully we will have a long dry spell around the time they lose them otherwise its April before we find them.

I saw one 40"ish bull on the way out to Delta last weekend, then spotted another younger bull off the side of the Richardson/Steese exit in Fairbanks that had already shed. I've seen bulls in Anchorage with racks still on as late as March.

Sounds like state wide we are all pretty consistent. I have seen several bulls recently that still have head gear. Late Dec. for them to start dropping sheds around me. The pic is of a bull and a cow that I saw on a ski trip on 11/29-12/1. I saw another much larger bull later in the trip but I had operator error with the camera
