I don't know if you will find an exact mileage map but with as many folks that run the area from the bridge, folks for sure can nail down mileage from the birdge to each town. let me dig up my map book and see if I wrote things down.
We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home; in towns and cities; in shops, offices, stores, banks anywhere that we may be placed

    TWB,

thanks for looking into. I'm possibly planning a moose hunt next fall and moslty wonder how many miles letting me see how many gal's of fuel will be needed for I would be a first timmer. Miles to each town would be very helpful and thank you for your help. Have you made the trip?

Its hard to compute since it isnt in a straight line. But I am guessing its 325-375 miles.
Bridge to Ruby we used 90 gallons, Ruby to Galena 20, Galena to Koyukuk headwaters, guessing 15-20.
Figure about using 25% more fuel on your way back home.

I don't mind sharing secrets because my days of the Koyukuk are pretty much over unless I draw a permit but I've gone pretty far up the Koyukuk, past Huslia. Its 1 1/2 days from the bridge, haulin ass.

We leave the bridge with 4 50gal drums loaded and top of in Galena. You'll also need to calculate X days of fuel, because your not gonna haul every gallon to camp, stash it along the river on the way and make sure you have enough stashed in route to get back to Galena. Watch your back when doing so, generally if a local sees you you can consider the fuel gone when you get back.

If you have the Ak Atlas your map book will show a shortcut from the Yukon over to the Koyukuk, I believe it drops 12-18 miles off? Water levels are a big factor whether it's passable in late Sept, I've hit bottom and ended up rocking it back to deeper water only to turn around

    Default 3day

Google Earth. After you make a east right hand corner (Kateel River to the west) lower 3 day slough is another 8miles or so. It has been such low water the last 2 years, 3 day slough wasn't a possibility at all.

Isn't there a website that shows water tables/averages and current conditions?

Heading high on the Koyukuk your gonna wanna know what sloughs you can handle, even expect ice. We were pushing out of camp a few days early in fear of not getting the boats out, or too much ice.

I think it is through the USGS. I have found them to be as reliable as the weather buoys, some days or weeks they work the next they don't. When they do work they have the average high/low, rate of water flow etc. Most of the time they are way behind.

Are you going to do a registration hunt or do you have a permit? What size boat and motor do you have? How many people, gear? Galena is the last place for gas, we went as far as Huslia for some big moose a couple years ago. On our way up, we dropped off fuel and hid it. so we didn't have all that weight with us.
