    Default How often

do you check your trap line? I'm just curious as to how often people go out. Do you have a cutoff temp? Thanks!

    Default Trapline checks

Try to run my lines every three days and -20 degrees is my personal "no go" temperature.

I check once a week, and my cut off is -35. I would check more, but I drive almost 300 miles one way to get up to my line, and then put 80-100 miles on the line.

3 times a week unless its warm then I like to go every day, I slow down if it gets colder...
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

If I have the time I go everyday. No cutoff temp as I am close to home. Of course not as much success. A few martens and an occasional fox.

Once a week. Cut off is -40, though I've been out at -60. Not very nice out there when it is that cold.

For those that go every day, is there not a risk of too much human activity causing some of the animals to leave the area? I have very little experience with trapping, but it would seem like less frequent checks might cause less disturbance to the animals' natural behavior.

I think it depends on a lot of variables. I have one line that gets checked once a week and another that gets checked 3 times a week.

Default every seven to ten days, depends

Depends on a couple variables: new snow and temperature. Mid-winter when it gets to -50 or so there isn't much animal movement and so I may wait ten days if it stays that cold (-40s, -50s). It isn't abnormal for us to see a week or longer of those temps.

Some lines are long enough that if we get a big dump of snow I can't cover them without going for successive days, and that may cause a longer timeframe between checks.

I'll go out in any temperature; if temp was a factor for me there are many winters that I wouldn't go out much for two months.

Thanks all for the replies. I was just curious cause this is my first year. I have been going twice a week but it seems that I could probably go to once a week. The wife didnt want me to go the other day when it was -18. I dont mind the cold, I have been riding the 4 wheeler to -30. But she won LOL. Thanks again
