    Default Pick four

OK supose the goverment decided we could still shoot and hunt but! No more haveing a hundred different bullet size names cases etc. The goverment polls to pick four rounds to keep Oh yea shotshells and 22's are all OK. Light gun pick for me 243win,Med 308 NATO, Utility 338 WinMag and BigBore 458 Lott.Damm I hated to leave out my 45/70 which I use for everything but this is for the good of the people and I put all ahead of my own prefrence. What would your four be?
    Light

    .223
7x57 (Although the ol' .30-06 would be at least as functional and more practical)
    .338 Win
    .45-70

    Default I'll play

    Light: 6.5x55
Medium: 8x57 (anything the '06 will do, and a more efficient cartridge)
    Utility: 9.3x62
Big Bore: I don't really know these. I like the 45-70, but it's the only one I've really shot.

light, 204 ruger. The most fun shooter I own
    Medium 270
utility 30/ 06 best all aroung calliber that can kill anything
    heavy. 375 H&H
That being said, speaking for myself, the day the government tries to outlaw my guns is the day I become an outlaw.

First off, I'd send the survey back with a nice written middle finger on it, but putting all of my extremism aside, three I would vote for would be those I selected when building my battery of arms:
    Lite - .223 Rem
    Medium/Utility - .308 Win
    Big Bore - 45-70 Govt

They could surprise me with a "utility" round. Those three meet all my needs.

So far it looks like we only have three rounds that are newer that fifty years old.Of course these old rounds are better because of power and bullets now used.

    Default choices

    .30-06 or .300 mag for a light , 9.3x62 for a medium , .45-70 ( 400 gr. @ 2000 fps ) for utility and a .458 for serious hunting , this is what I use .

    Default a way around

you never said it would be household so the wife gets four, and four for each of the kids. I could make this work
I'd have to have more kids

Ignoring the hypothetical context for only being allowed four calibers by our government...which is the least that I'd do if it really happened...

    Light .30-06
    Medium .375H&H
    Utility .45 ACP
    B Bore .454 Casull

Looks like I'm the only one thinking hand-gun as well as rifle.
