Thumbs up Trail Report W.P.C. Willow AK. 11/19/08

Well here we are at the start of another season in the cold frozen north!!!
Anyway the Willow Trail Comm. has been out marking, triming and grooming like mad for the last 2 weeks getting ready for this winter season fun! We have 11" of snow and at least 10" of ice. It was 6 below this morning and 5 above right now. Most of the main trails are groomed and ready for family fun. The rivers are runable all the way to Swentna at least. Remember early season condishions are out to get you (stumps, rocks, ice jumbells, open holes on the rivers). Stay off private property! Ride the trials or lakes till you get to the Willow Swamp!!
Trail maps are avalable at many local stores and at Eagle River Arctic Cat Polaris and Alaska House of Yamaha in Big Lake.
Hope to see you soon in Willow!
    Be careful out there!
Ride like you want to ride another day!!!

Winter in Willow doesn't officially begin until the Trail Boss weighs in with his first report! Is there enough snow to make it all the way to the big swamp from Long Lake? Is that little section of trail that crosses the road between Long and Crystal open?

    Smile Update!

Yes, you can get to the Big Swamp. It's been groomed to Rolly Creek Hill. Long Lake, Crystal Lake crossing has been improved and the land owner is working with us as long as we STAY ON THE TRAIL!!!!

    Wink The River!!!

Kroto slough is normaly not mark and this early LSDA has not got there signage up yet. Kroto Slough - GCI Trail is the best for early running. Go to the Deshka River where it meets the Big Su. take the fork to the right, go down a mile or so look for a main trail on the left off the slough that will be the GCI trail, it go through a few swamp and dumps you back on the last part of the slough.
    Hope this helps!!!

    Default Thanks

Trail Boss, we appreciate your constant updates and information regarding the riding conditions, keep it up!
Do you know if the short cut to the Deshka river has been opened up yet? (The one that dumps you out by Laubs on the Deshka river)
Also, how is the Big Su running up that direction, is there much open water out there?
Has anyone been on the deshka river?
    Thanks,
    BK
