    Default Advice

Looking for some info on hunting black tail in Alaska. I am stationed at Fort Wainwright, but deployed to Iraq until next year. Would like some help planning this hunt. Would be thankful for any advice.

Your best bets will either be Kodiak or Southeast Alaska - possible Prince of Whales Island. Both will require flying in, but both offer great opportunities for both numbers and trophy potential. You could also look into taking a water taxi out of Valdez and hunting Hinchinbrook or Montague Islands. Prince William Sound, though, seems to be on the low end for deer numbers right now. That being said, this option would probably be a little less expensive.

Do some searches here for Kodiak deer, POW deer, PWS deer, Montague deer, etc. That should give you a good bit of info to start narrowing down your choices.
