    Question Ptarmigan?

Anyone willing to share a decent ptarmigan spot? I just got a new 20 gauge and was sorta hopin' to get it some action over the weekend. Rabbits can get old pretty quick, so I was gonna try to get into some ptarmigan. If you want it to be private, just shoot me a pm. Any info is greatly appreciated. I'm in Wasilla.

    Thanks!

Rabbit's get old? Gee I'd be happy if I could just find a spot with a few rabbits

As for Ptarmigan, I've been told Hatchers pass is a decent place. I've got friends who've seen quite a few back in there while snowboarding.

They are up high this time of year. Broad Pass before Cantwell always produces for me, but I usually snowmobile in.

If you have a snowmachine, head up to Eureka or off the Denali Hwy. Ride up close to any stands of willows you can find and look for tracks. If you find tracks, the birds usually aren't too far away.

Many times I have been able to shut off my snowmachine near a stand of willows and listen. The birds that are hiding will often get nervous and start clucking and giving their positions away . A .22 rifle works well for headshots with no ruined meat.
