but my son got his first bunny this morning.
iron sights at about 60 yds. we had to track it, but that was lots of fun too.

thats a pretty long shot with little margin for error for anyone with open sights. I think i missed my first shot today at 10ft with a red dot...im not sure what happend but the second shot left the rabbit speechless.

Thats great for such a young hunter, your his hero even if he did pull the trigger. Super Dads are great!!

    Now its time to eat

LOL Dave i know the feeling... my oldest does that.. i tell her you missed when the rabbit runs off... she says shhhhhh! listen.. a moment later the bunnie starts squealing and she goes in the brush after it.. EVERY TIME.. you know whats real tough on ya? when you realize the kids can all of a sudden out shoot you...

    Default Excellent!

Congrats on your boys first rabbit. Is that a Henry minibolt? That's a heck of a shot.

    Thumbs up

he is 8, just had a birthday on 10/15.
the rifle is a mini-bolt he got for his 7th b-day.
i have told him that when he consistently hits critters with irons that i will get him something with a scope. his practice has since become inspired. <grin>

    Default Please...

    congratulate your son from me.

I remember my first rabbit, almost half a century ago.

But it wasn't taken from 60 meters!

Look into the rossi single shot youth model they have a 22/410 combo that is a great starter gun. Perfect size for the younglings my kids love it. Perfect fit for 7 to 10 year olds.

i looked all over for a rossi matched pair in .308/20 ga.
the .22/.410 might be more available.. galen is getting a rem model 7 in 7mm-08 for christmas.
i wanted a combo shotgun/rifle, but most of them are some little whitetail load and a 20 ga.. nothing big enough for alaska

Well you'd better come get it soon Dave or the scope may mystically transform into a lesser Leupold! Great gun, don't worry Tracy wont let me play with Galen's new gun. I do want to be there for first shot though!
