    Default New Zealand fishing

I figured I'd see if anybody online here has fished New Zealand (South Island) and if they can recommend a guide and flies/gear to take? I'm looking to go there in a month and would like to book a couple days with a guide to chase Brown Trout. Thanks for any help.

    Default South Island Flyfishing

I moved to the South Island for the 04-05 trout season. I never fished with a guide, preferring to figure it out for myself. All rivers are public property and public access. If you stop at most farmhouses, the people are incredibly friendly and helpful. Bring some sofa pillow type floating flies and black or bright green nymphs and you should do well. Move slowly upstream looking at every bit of holding water to see the trout first. Blind fishing wasn't generally good. Good Luck, Ed
