    Default Alaska Residents Tag Opportunity

I'm just curious what tags an Alaska Resident can either buy over the counter or by draw every year?

Buy? They only tags we have to "buy" are Brown bear/grizzly and musk ok. Resident harvest tickets are available for caribou, dall sheep, deer, and moose. Over the counter registeration permits are available for mountain goat. Wolf and wolverine do not require resident tags, harvest tickets. Bison are drawing.
To complicate matters, there are also drawing hunts for moose, caribou, brown bear/grizzly, dall sheep, musk ox and mountain goat. Registration hunts for brown bear/grizzly, elk, moose, and caribou.
I probably missed something but it all depends on what game management unit (subunit) you want to hunt.

You'll have to read up on the ADF&G website for the specifics on the differences between harvest tickets, registration permits, drawing permits, and hunts that do not require a tag at all. It's not that complicated, but knowing what you need when is important if you want to stay on the right side of the law.

To make it very basic, though, here are the species that an Alaskan can hunt for free without winning a drawing permit: -Moose, caribou, black bear, brown bear, Sitka blacktailed deer, sheep, goat, musk ox (limited), elk (limited), wolf.

Despite that exhaustive list, laws can be very restrictive from unit to unit. Opportunities exist, but are generally fewer the closer to civilization you're hunting and the more demand exists for that species (sheep, goat, and musk ox especially).

I'd suggest spending a few hours on the F&G website.

Without having to draw there are opportunities for all the game animals. Except Bison.

Remember that Alaska is a very large state.

You are trying to generalize the hunting opportunities for an area that would be like generalizing what is available west of the Mississippi in the lower 48.

If you have the money you could hunt everything in the state.

Not sure what you are thinking but many of the draws are available to non residents as well. Like Brian said spend some time on the ADFG website & get a feel for what is going on.

Man what did we do before Al Gore invented the internet.
