Thread: Toolik Research Area?

  1. #1

    Question Toolik Research Area?

I purchased a map of the haul road at Sportsman's Warehouse. It states that the area between mile markers 278-293 is closed to camping because of the Toolik Research Area. Is this enforced? Could I park my vehicle between these mile markers, hike 5 miles in and set up camp? Thanks.

    Default My experience

There are actually pull offs on the Haul Road right before the research center and just after it. Camped at both and never had a problem. However, if you take the driveway that goes to the research center, camping is prohibited. I know guys who were woke up at 2:00 am by the troopers asking them to leave. But you should be ok if you stay on the actual Haul Road.

If you park in one of those little pull outs (most of them have Alyeska signs), you should be ok as long as you don't block access to the gate and the rest of the road.
