    Default Anchor river steel head?

Any one heard how the steelhead fishing in the Anchor river is? I haven't heard any thing but would like to plan a trip for the first half of October if possible.

I've heard there have been very few fish to return so far this year. Might be slim pickens.

I have heard it has been blown out for the last couple of weeks but starting to clear up. Not many fish there either way.

Best place to check is to actually go to the river and wet a line. Can't tell you how many times I've heard there no fish here or there, only to go fish and have some of the best trips ever like this past May with the Kings in the river. You might not catch a fish when you're down there (it's part of fishing,) but you definately won't catch one sitting in front of the computer.

Hmm, well unfortunatly just going and wetting a line is not as easy as it sounds when the river is about 300 miles away. I was just looking for some preliminary information before planning my trip. It is not like I am choosing to sit in front of the computer instead of going fishing.

Conditions look good, but I can't speak about the fish.
I only managed one day during my month long stay last month. Water was high at the time and the fish were less than co-operative.
When I was about to hit it in the last week of September it blew out again.
Watch the levels if it's up or heading up stay home, if it's on a downward trend (below 2.0) head down.

8 hours and 5 miles produced one strike
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

I fished the Anchor River for about an hour on my last day of my trip to Alaska.... It was either Sept. 14 or 15. I didn't catch anything but I watched a guy 30yds away catch two steelhead, biggest was 32 inches. We were fishing right next to a public parking lot (one of those $5 places). Access couldn't have been easier.

I spent 2 days on the anchor river this weekend with no luck.
My wife caught 2 dollies. The biggest about 18 inches.

I fished Anchor Saturday and Sunday. We hooked and lost multiple Steelies. However, we landed our share. Sunday we only had 3 hours to fish before heading back to town. In those 3 hours we landed 5 steelie's between two of us. The color of water is still a little off. You can catch fish if willing to put in the time.
