    Default Great

Wow! Great bull. I'm really happy for you. Everything we called and saw this year was sub-legal. I'm glad to see someone having success. Congrats again!

    Default arrows

    Marc,
Are those FOBs on your arrows? If they are, how did they work on your moose? How about a little review please.

    Marc,
Great job. Looks bigger than 58" too. What type of arrows and broadhead are you shooting?

    Great Bull! Congrats!!!
I for one, really enjoy the pictures and posts on this site - many of you hunters may not stop and realize there are LOTS of hunters that only dream about doing what you have done and they get to live a bit of that wonderful life through your pictures and stories.... It may seem like just another day in the bush to you, to many others its a chance to read and dream! Keep the stories coming!
I too would like to hear some of the story behind this hunt???

Geeze, Mark! Don't you hunt moose anywhere other than Ft. Rich or Elmendorf?

    Nice bull!

    Thumbs up perspective

What Marc does not tell you is that he is only 3'10" tall, so it makes the moose look much bigger....
Seriously though, Marc knows how to call in big horny males and get them all worked up. That is something I have not been able to do. Which is why I am without a moose again this year. Yeah, I am jealous...
Congratulations Marc. I need to come in for some moose hunting/calling lessons because you obviously know how to "get 'er done."

    Default Nice Bull.........

    Marc,
I was wondering who got the other bull that day. I got one with a muzzleloader later that day and the MP that came out to check out the site said there was another 58" bull taken that morning. Mine was also 58".

PS- I really liked your books.....

    Congrat's, AKNewbie. You're not a newbie anymore!

    The rest of the story:

He came to mixed calling at first light. Didn't even hesitate. As soon as I shut my partner down from the bull calling he was doing outside the kill zone, the bull began grunting and moving my way. We set up at a 90-degree angle to his movement with the slight breeze to our faces and he walked in and stopped at the exact place I was cow calling from. Later we lazed it at 21 yards. That's usually what they do, but not that fast.

I'm usually pretty calm at the moment of a shot, but this time it happened so fast that my heart was pounding audibly louder as he got closer. I pulled back before I saw his antlers, because once he was close, and he was, there would be no pulling in plain sight. He turned his head toward me slightly and I remember glancing at his huge rack to check for deformations or broken tines for only a split second before I decided to take him. If he was not near 60 or had trash I probably would have passed. Non-typical is desirable, but garbage is not... This is my 4th bull with a bow so that is just a progression that I'm working on to keep myself motivated, really. I'm not as picky as it sounds, but I had a pretty hard goal of breaking 60 if possible.

We got it all on video, and I may post it at some time once I get that good with uploading video and that whole mess.

Great looking bull Newbie, how about sharing how the hunt went down. Sounds like the bulls are starting to get fired up, was that your experience?

    Congratulations.

AKHunter45 had to go to his good friend's birthday party out of town. He's a dedicated friend like that.

BUT, I can see him standing there holding the phone with me on the other end telling him how I just shot my bull. He's standing on one foot and kicking himself in the butt with the other foot! Repeatedly. Haah!

He'll get his bull, no doubt.

    Taylor
