it really depends on the geographic area and what type of seasonal weather the area is experiencing.

    Talking Bear Denning

October 19th at 4:54pm. There are a lot of factors to consider, weather is a biggest one.

I've seen TONS of bears through until Halloween. I had a sow and cubs try and eat my dog two days before Thanksgiving several years ago. It all depends.

I was on the Indian Trail today and did not see any bear, nor any tracks/sign. The trail is in real good condition.

    Default bears

I cut an old track yesterday(griz) and then today he laid down some fresh ones on top of ours from yesterday. Last bear I saw in 07 was Nov 12 in the Anchorage area.

    Roach,

With temps hovering in the 20-degree range for much of the day nowadays, it's not likely you would see fresh tracks anyway (mostly frozen ground now)... there are probably still a few blackies around, but this year is colder than it was last year at the same time. I would expect them to be looking for a hole to crawl into pretty soon.

    Default black and brown

Saw a big ole fat brownie on the Skilak loop road yesterday going in - and a tiny skinny blackie on the way out. Beautiful day on the Lake - little wind, lots of sunshine, a few committed ducks.......I need to thank my buddies for not leaving me behind as I did not wake up on time to leave.........
