    Default Lightweight Tents

With light weight tents (5 to 6 lbs). I was wondering what is the preferred material for the poles - aluminum or fiber glass? I see most of the ultra light tents use aluminum, just wondering what experiences people would like to share.

    Thanks in advance

I've always heard, and preffered, aluminum. It seems as if it would be easier to fix if it were to break in the field.

yes. all the good/light tents have alum poles. It`s much lighter than fiberglass. I have North face talus 33 whit aluminum poles and cabelas 6 man alaskan tent whit aluminum poles. And it weight 6lbs less than the fiberglass one.

I've been using aluminum poles for the last 10 years, and never had any problems. I far prefer them to fiberglass, especially in the cold.

I don't know of anyone using fiberglass poles anymore. Do you mean Carbon Fiber? I have a Bibler Fitzroy four season tent with some custom CF poles that cuts the weight and is just as strong as aluminum poles.
