Thread: winch troubleshoot

    Default winch troubleshoot

I just bought a Gorilla 2500lb winch. I installed it according to the manufacturer's instructions however, the winching power diminishes to almost nothing after a few seconds of winching. Has anyone experienced this after installing a winch themselves? Any advice or help would be great! Thanks....

    Ak Guppy,

Thanks for the link...I looked on this site the other day. I have all the wires connected correctly so that's why I'm left scratching my head as to why it's losing power. The only thing I haven't tried is throwing a ground wire on the winch. In the instructions it didn't say anything about grounding it so I assumed that the winch itself acts as a ground when connected to the mounting plate. If I add a ground wire could I connect it to the negative terminal on the winch and ground it to the frame of my wheeler?

The wench does not need to be grounded.

Sounds like you have a bad connection or maybe a bad battery.
Do you have a vom meter?

    Rutting Moose,

I do not have a vom meter but I do have a battery charger that will tell me the % of the battery.

A battery charger will not work. Do you have another battery?
Can you use your car battery, and jumper cable?

Try contacting Gorilla directly, they should have a tech you can talk to.
