    Question Seward Halibut?

Some friends and I are heading to Seward tomorrow for a weekend fishing trip for halibut. We are hoping to find some chickens without motoring for 2-3 hours. Can anyone point me to a decent area that we might be able to pick up a few? My luck there so far has been really spotty and is usually an oddball halibut while fishing for silvers or rockfish. I'm not expecting anyone to give up their honey holes, just some friendly advice .

We are going to be in a 22' Aurora hardtop.

Drop a full herring down wherever you end up fishing for silvers.......Some of the biggest fish I have seen came from this technique (if you can even call it that)

    Well,

Weather was great, fishing was so-so. Saturday we headed out and went out about 1 1/2 hrs. out of Seward. We spent most of the day between Johnstone bay and Day harbor and caught a few silvers, quite a few black rockfish, and a few chicken halibut (more like chicks...). We worked our way back in and had great water pretty much all day.

Today (sunday) we went back out and tried around Bear glacier a bit and then went out to Pony cove. We saw a few silvers landed, but the only thing we brought up was a small flounder. We had to get back fairly early so it was a quick trip.

We were staying at the Stoney Creek campground (highly recommended BTW), I met forum member Sierra Hotel there (nice boat!) too.

Thanks for the tips guys, it would have been easier to fish the shelves mentioned if our GPS antenna hadn't gone out though!

    Default Slow Show

The Silvers sure seem to be slow moving into the Bay. Seems like we've seen them in there a lot earlier than this. Heading over that way Thursday or Friday. Maybe by then?????? Glad you missed the big storm we just had heading through Sterling. Thunderboomer. Thanks for all the updates.

Rob, it was great to meet you. Sounds like your silver fishing was about like ours - about $350/lb for the silvers that we caught!

    See you on the salt!

    Default Sorry

I missed getting with you out there Rob. I did run into Gary at the pumps Sunday AM. I did hear a call for me a couple of times but could not get a reply back. Did you get a chance to fish where I suggested? I didn't get out that far until later Saturday as we had a sick one on the boat. We did get our h-butt though and only 1 silver each day.
