Default What are your 2 favorite Consecutive months to fish? Why?

    Hey guys,

I got back from AK a couple of weeks ago (feels like 10 years) and Im already planning my trip back for 09.

This year, I got there may 25th, and I stayed until Aug.2nd. I am happy I got to catch a King but I really missed the Chum, pink and silver runs.

In your opinion, which 2 consecutive months do you like fishing and why?

    thanks,

    Jonathan

Honestly man, I don't know why you're bothering with the two month crap. Just move up here and be done with it!

June 15 - Aug 15 would be my vote, though.

    Hey Drifter,

Is that when those BIG silvers are around? I read about a huge run of silvers on the Kenai from one of the books I bought. 15lbs and more?

All depends on what you want to fish, but like Brian M stated June 15 - August 15th would be my vote. In this timeframe you can catch Kings, Reds, Silvers, Halibut, Lingcod, etc. Those 5 are my top list of fish I fish for.

October may or may not be the month to hit big silvers in the upper Kenai.

    October & November.

Hunting is likely over, the salmon meat runs are over, the fun fishing starts, the fishing is great, I like the weather then (unless it's raining), and there are no crowds whatsoever (indeed, usually there is nobody out there at all).

    *ahem*

Not to step on your plans, good sir, but don't you have a girlfriend to take hiking next summer? I'm not so sure fishing is what you need to be planning your trip around if you want to take more such trips in the future.

Slow down Brian, don't temp Soda's fate. If she would rather hike than fish, Soda needs to test the fish waters now before it is too late.

Ha! Oh, she's quite the fisherwoman. I had the privilege of sharing a riverbank with her this summer, and the man has got himself quite a catch when it comes to a fishing partner. That being said, the guy dragged the poor woman to every puddle that possibly held a hint of a fish this summer.

Now that I think about it, though, my wife is quite the fishing fiend herself. I guess she could hike with Soda's girl while he and I hit the rivers. Hmmm....

    Soda - proceed as planned.

I would say June 20- Aug 20 would be great for targeting reds, kings, silvers, pinks, and chums...

Kings start around may but never seem to actually be decent fishing until well into june- just my take

This thread is getting funnier by the hour. Thanks for reminding me Brian. No wonder Rose sighed when I asked her what months she wants to go to AK next year.

Instead, Ill ask her to contact Sarah about where we can all go hiking next summer...

    between June 20-end of August

July and August if fishing on the peninsula.

There are plenty of hiking trails along the highway. Fish 1 day then hike the next.
