Did some work with my dog today on wounded bird retrieving. I had my dad hide a bumper with a duck wing taped to it in the grass. I ducked down with my dog like I was in a blind blew my call, he then casted another bumper that was attached to fishing line out in the water. I sent my dog after it and then when she was half way out he would reel the bumper into the grass and she would have to sniff out the pre-positioned bumper. It was pretty cool to watch my dog really use her nose to find the bumpers. Hopefully this training strategy is a realistic crippled duck tracking strategy. You could really tell her attention level shot through the roof when that bumper started moving. She would start whining as she was swimming for it. Anyone else do any similar training with their dogs? I'm always looking for new and different ways to sharpen up my dog.
