    Default mushroom identification

    king boletes? i belive that this is what i was fourtunite to find. is this what i think it is.
    if any of you mushroom experts know please reply.
    i have researched and and am pretty sure just want a second opinion.

    Those look like Kings or 'boletus edulis' known also as Ceps. Of course matching it with ALL charachteristics including a spore print would be wise before eating it...always a good idea if you aren't sure. Kenai Penisula Mycolological Society website has some handy charts for identifying local 'shrooms. BUT, those sure look like Kings to me...from here good find and have fun...Randy.

    A quick look at the underside will confirm the ID.

    Boletes do not have gills. The underside resembles a sponge or foam rubber. Be wary of the large ones as they tend to get maggoty.
