Default REM 700 BDL European or NOT?

I came across a rifle that I've identified as a Remington 700 BDL European, Serial #6774555 chambered in 7mm Magnum.

It has the oil finish stock w/ Monte Carlo comb and raised cheekpiece, black forentip, fine line checkering, hinged floor plate, sling swivel studs, and a hooded ramp front sight.

However, according to the 2007 edition of The Standard Catalog of Firearms this gun was not made until 1993. The owner swears her dad bought it in 1973.

Am I wrong or is she? How do I know?

Look on the barrel shank just in front of the receiver on the lefthand side. There will be some numbers and letters stamped. That is how Remington identified what month and year a firearm was made.

Here's a source for how to read those numbers.

    Default right on...

    I knew someone would know.

    I stand corrected - It's not a European... Standard Model 700 BDL...

WY; Built August 1974... She guessed 1973 but was not positive.

I guess the the hooded front sight threw me off.

    Thanks
