Thread: Flushing Volvo Outdrive

    Default Flushing Volvo Outdrive

I recently bought a 22' seasport with a 305 Vovlo to a volvo outdrive. I need to run the motor after fixing an antifreeze leak. I was wondering if there is any special flushing attachments or anything special I need to do to run it on a hose.
    Thanks in advance,
    John

Not sure what year model you have but mine (2005) has a flush port built into the engine you access from top. Just screw in a hose and turn on the water.

Yeah, there are motor flusher attachments available just for this purpose. There is even one specific to the Volvo outdrive. Some folks call them earmuffs cuz that's what they look like.

Look for the little intake screens at the bottom of your drive. That's what the motor flusher covers. Any marine dealer would have flushers.

If you have 200, 250, 270, 280 or 290 drive, look for Moeller brand, PN 099080-00
If you have an SX or duoprop drive, look for 099077-00 or 099082-00

Aside from engine testing after repairs, you can also use the motor flusher to flush your engine with fresh water (garden hose) after returning from a saltwater trip - helps reduce corrosion.

Just be careful using this option, I filled a cylinder and hydro locked the engine using it. The motor should be running when you start the water, the other downside of this is that it only flushes 1/2 of the system.
