Valley Silvers- update
Willow update first: Chums, pinks and silvers are here! Kept 3 silvers, 3 chums with a buddy Monday night at the mouth. We hiked up into the creek a ways, and found several holes just packed. Caught 1 silver, missed 2 at the first mouth, the rest were upstream. We also released 7 or 8 silvers for being too small and in trying to catch the last chum. That was in about 5 hours of fishing. A lot of people fishing the first mouth are doing pretty poor, but mainly cause fish arent' pooling up in casting distance like they have done in the past. It has improved a lot from last week!
Water clarity is great, but the level is fairly high. Most of the Parks Highway streams have very good clarity and high water; all the mud has already been swept out.
Eklutna is fair, with great water level. With more commercial fish closures in the drift fleet, we're seeing the result in good silver escapements! Deshka weir count is now 5645, which is right on pace with the 2006 escapement, and a week ahead of last year's. Fishing on Deshka has been off the chart, too. Limit of 3 fish makes it nice going there, too!
Little Su is up and muddy, but a LOT of silvers there.
Water is still cold everywhere. Wow thats a surprise! Makes for a good bite all day.
Good luck All!!!
Excellent report, thanks for taking the time.
Help me out much, since my travels are so far for the salmon.
