    Default Chena River Kings

Fishing must be pretty good. Here is a Picture of my Boss's fish he caught tonight right by the Parks Highway bridge. He said it measured out to about 33". Not bad for a fish that came up this far.

Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

I used to think those interior fish were the $^!t because they were bigger than anything I'd ever caught and tasted okay.

Then I moved to the coast..........

Nice fish though. I've long believed that catching Chena, Salcha and Chatanika kings were more a matter of luck.
    Now what ?

The kings around Fairbanks may not be much but they are close to home and they smoke Okay, plus we don't have to drive for hours to fish for them. This one came from the Chena, from the date for run looks right on time.

It all comes down to throwing a line in the water and catching something. Good catch!!

    Default Diverse morphology

It's striking to see all the pics you've posted, and how long and lean those interior kings look... even the hens!

They are shaped more like steelhead than salmon.

Even the anal fin looks different than the typical broad-based flared anal fin I'm accustomed to seeing on chinook.

You know............I flung a lot of hardware in that spot back in the day trying to catch one of those things.
