Thread: Whittier Reds (Main Bay)??

  1. #1

    Question Whittier Reds (Main Bay)??

I've read the most recent posts about reds in Main Bay but I was wondering if anyone made it out there in the last couple of days? Are the commercial boats still fishing the bay? Thanks...

    Default Main

It looks like there's a 24 hour commercial opener that begins tomorrow (Monday) but I haven't really cracked the code on how to read the announcements.

    Default Main Bay

I was in Main Bay this past Sunday evening -- just me and about 10 commercial boats and set netters. I bagged a few nice reds --- it was dead calm & beautiful in the Bay. I understand the commercial gillnet opener closes this Tuesday night and opens again sometime Thursday thru Sunday. Alot of the commercial guys have left out of Whittier so you should not have a problem.

Bring plenty of bug juice, we were up against the shore and the bugs were voracious.

    Default No reds

Tried Main again Friday night but could find none for the taking -- commercial guys had the area blanketed. I spoke with one of the boats and he stated it was slow for them, too.

How were you catching the pinks? Trolling?

    Default Pinks

Just caught them mooching about 20 feet down. Nothing special. Can't wait for the silvers to start hitting!
