    Thumbs up Chosen River Special

There was a thread on this fly last year. As most of you know by know Im addicted to the upper kenai for bow and dollies. After the weekend opener of reds we floated the upper (bridge to jims) We used the usual on the upper. Smolts and leech's. Once I got past the gauntlet line I found tons of red carcass's piling up in some of the side channels (mile 57 hole and the braids) I decided to try this new bugger out. I was very very impressed. The Bows and dollies took this fly over and over. For so early in the season the quanity and quality of the fish we pushing like it was september. My wife was on beads and did very very well so early in the season. If you get a chance to pick up some of these flies I think they are a must have and are gonna be great in the fall. Just my humble opinion

    Default Good to hear...

Good to hear someone likes this fly. I had heard it was good. My post is the one your are referring to I am pretty sure. I bought some from Hill's Discount Flies (online) for my upcoming trip on the Wulik in NW Alaska. We are going for dollies in Sept. Can't wait. Hope I have the same luck with the Chosen River Special that you have had. Below is a link to the flies at Hill's just in case anyone would be interested in ordering some.

Opps, didn't see the link above. Pretty fly, looks rather easy to tie up. I like the looped yarn, good to get caught in the rainbow/dolly teeth.

It looks real nice drifting over the carcess piles too. A little egg color, a little flesh color best of both worlds. If it works like Im thinking it will in the fall it should be fun. It sure has treated me good so far this year on the kenai, willow and quartz

    Default start tying.

Chuck, you need a vise brotha. 12 bucks in materials and you could whip out 60, with different colors to boot. Plus the added satisfaction of catching on the "Chuck River Special". Just a thought.

    Angry The Sad part is

I have a nice vise. All the tools. Most of the materials. Im just to busy this time of year. Now come this winter well that is a different story. Between work, fishing, and surfing fish porn (that is what my wife call this) I just dont have the time and right now Ill admit it, the patience. Give me a cold winter day, a years worth of fish videos, Ill be a tying fool.

I gotta admit the "Chuck Special' does have a ring to it. Im gonna have to make some. see you got me thinking and I have to come back and edit my post. It was the Chuck river special and the different colors. Ok Im gonna have to make some. Ill make sure to post a couple of pics of my "Master Fly's" Then we will see if they work lol

I just today received a dozen of these from Hill's:

It has similar colors to flesh flies (not obvious from the picture on Hill's website).

    Default Me too

I just got my dozen last Friday. Hope to try and tie some more of my own as I am going to try and destroy them!!! Should be fun, the Upper Kenai will be a good testing ground starting this weekend.

I also got their catalog which is nice and has selections for just about everything!!!
