Default what was up with right outside the lagoon

I decided to check out the lagoon yesterday when I noticed 3 sien nets in front of the lagoon entrance? My 2 cents I thought this was class less in just about blocking the fish to getting in the lagoon where people could enjoy fishing.

It might have been a cost recovery fishery for the hatchery operations that stock the lagoon. I don't know if that's the case, but they do that in other places that are stocked. By allowing the seiners to clean out some of the fish they are able to sell them and put the funds back into the hatchery production. Does anyone know if this is the case here?

From what I was told it was people that were subsistance fishing. Could not verify if this was true or not

Were they commercial seining boats, or people with skiffs/shore-based operations?

Smile it is a personal use fishery

On August 16th a personal use coho salmon gill net fishery opens in the Bay. This fishery has been around for years so I suspect that is what was observed.

It was not a commercial fishery but a cost recovery fishery for the lagoon is a possibility but I doubt it. Cost recovery requires a special harvest area in regulation passed by the Board of Fish. I know of no cost recovery near the lagoon in regulation.

It just suck to see all those people there fishing and not to relize that there were nets just out side the lagoon. I'm sure if they knew that most of them wouldn't have wasted there time down there fishing.
