    Default One Powder

I have shared my ideas with those that will heed what I say.....the high cost of factory fodder or the lack thereof down the road. Many agree but don't set store and I do have good friend that is a fine hunter and trapper that wants to store up for 3 calibers and the powder I have in mind for him is

    .25-06 IMR4350 Partitions 120 grn

    .308 IMR4350 Partition 180PP

    .300WM IMR4350 Partition 180PP

these are the 3 rifles he has but the necessary reloading material will soon be gathered but how is my selection for a powder?

    regards,

Works for me, though I usually wouldn't pick 4350 for a 308. Considering the other possibilities for 25-06 and 300 though, it only gets worse for them if you go faster, or worse for the 308 if you go slower. Good choice, though I wouldn't rule out one of the Reloaders. I just don't have enough experience with them to speculate.

thanks Brownbear, you are a fine choice for information. It is a tough call to ask for "one" powder to do all.

    regards,

Pretty dern good. What would be an ideal powder for the 300 mag would also be just as good for the 25-06, about the same bore to powder volume ratio. But the 308 poses a problem. Though the 4350 powder would work it isn't ideal and H4350 would be better for the 308 and still be very good for the other two. I would change this to H4350 with its slightly faster burn and more consistant performance over temperature ranges. I believe both will be listed in most manuals for all three calibers.

I know that I would never want to be without a good supply of H4350.

H4350 it is - thanks Murphy. I personally don't have any experience with H4350 and your word and experience in this is much appreciated.

or mmmmmh.... 8#'s of H1000 or 4831 along with a couple of lbs. of 4064-if it was my money I'd buy a variety and try them out and go from there.

    thanks gents,

Default I use a lot of IMR 4350

Yesterday was 30-06 with 180 AB and 52 gr. Today was 300 WSM with 180 E-tips (first load with those by the way; curious at best) and 62 gr.

    thanks gents,
If you're getting away from the one powder idea, I agree with the 4064 for the 308. That's consistently been the best powder for me in a number of rifles and over a range of bullets. I haven't tried H1000 in either round, but would have no probs with the 4831, though I'd prefer the slightly slower H version to the IMR.

    Thumbs up 4895

4895 will work very good in the 308 and 30-06.......but the 25-06 your IMR 4350 or
    RL 17/19.
