Thread: recommendations for Sako .338

    Default recommendations for Sako .338

I've just bought a cherry Sako AV in .338. I'm not a reloader and I'm looking for recommendations for factory ammo that you've found to be particularly accurrate in Sakos. I've had great luck with Federal Premium NP in .308 and 7mm, but not in .338, 250 grain bullets. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Prob need to just start running thru the different brands and weights of bullets. You could also send the rifle off to some of the many custom reloaders. A final thought is that Black Hills does have an enviable reputation for unusually accurate ammo. I am not sure about the new custom loaded Nosler but may be worth considering if the generally available store bought stuff doesn't shoot.

As others have said, but will add the following: why don't you try a box of Federal ammo loaded with 225-grain TSX? It's very accurate from my Ruger.

    Default try rem swift a

I have a win Mod70 in 338. Feds don't group to good for me but Remington 225 grain Swift-A's groups nicely.
That said I'm going to start hand loading my own ammo soon.

Another fellow mention black hills on this thread, I love that ammo especially for my .308, but I'm almost positive that they do not offer it in .338.

    Good luck!

My mistake - Black Hills Gold ammo only goes up to 300 WM - no 338 WM available.....at this time.
