    Default PSA Re: Main Bay

DON'T GO TO MAIN BAY DURING AN OPENER THERE WILL NOT BE ROOM FOR SPORT ANGLERS TO FISH!

The entire bay will be open this year including the SHA and AGZ for the duration of the season from the info I've heard (from set net folks who live in the bay). There will not be room for sport fishermen when there is an opener like there has been in the past. They are not doing any cost recovery at the Main Bay hatchery so fish will probably not build up inside the bay like they used to.

Announcements can be found here http://csfish.adfg.state.ak.us/newsr...t.php?dist=CDV

Also please avoid trolling or driving inshore of set net buoys there are running lines from the shore to the buoys and you will lose your rigs. set Net sites are all within 100 fathoms of shore and most within 50.

If you plan on camping in the bay please be respectful of the residents and avoid loud music random gunshots etc. There are plenty of places to party in PWS where little kids don't live.

The folks out there pay for those fish to be there so please treat them respectfully
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

    What color do you like????

Once the inside the bay is open. It will be a zoo with comercial fishermen.. Private boats trying to get in there will soon notice it's a maze to get in there and out.

Just remember if you run over a net you are responsible $$$ for the damage.

    Default Nets

The only person who I saw hit a net last year was a commercial guy! Stopped them in their tracks and they were moving at a good clip. Meanwhile I take my time and putt my way out of there.
I'll probably stay clear this year.

I used to run around the drift net gillnetters in SE alaska all the time. It was simple there to avoid a net, just head for a bouy, that always marked the end of the net and as you got closer you could see which way to snake through. Also, there was a courtesy law amongst the gillnetters there of not setting closer to one-another than 300 fathoms.

I've never really been around set-netters though, outta be interesting to see how that goes.

Setnetters use running/anchor gear/lines that may extend for quite some distance beyond the buoys, just a heads up.
