Thread: Kodiak lakes depth?

    Default Kodiak lakes depth?

How deep are the lakes on the Kodiak road system? I have been fishing the abandoned iron mines here in MN with my downriggers and lures. We have been doing really well for Lake trout and Rainbows at about 80 feet down over 225-350' of water. Are the Kodiak lakes deep enough for downrigging? I have been told stories of 28"+ rainbows caught within the past few years there from shore and hope to get my little boat in some deep water. Are there any lakes with good access and depth? Also, what species and size are present? Thanks all.

    Default info

looks like nothing over 25-30 feet. lakes are stocked with rainbows and silvers. Have heard rumor there are small populations of greyling in a couple of the hike in lakes. Hope this helps

I heard these lakes don't get a lot of pressure from boaters/ canoes. You should see the pictures I've been shown of the giant rainbows! Too bad they are so shallow, I love downrigging!
