Copper to Chitina
Has anybody here done the float from somewhere up the Copper, like the Gulkana, down to the bridge at Chitina? I'm looking at leading a group down that route for dipnetting, and am wondering if others have had success dipnetting up there, if there are suitable camping sites along the way, and if the tales I hear about the afternoon up-stream winds are true.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Afternoon upwinds are common all along the Copper River. They're a pain.
But I was under the impression that dipping for salmon was only permitted from Chitina downstream to about the bottom of Wood Canyon. I didn't think you could dip upriver from there.
Thanks for the info.
It's my understanding that you can dipnet above the bridge, but it's a different permit. It's the Glennallen Subdistrict, not Chitina. You have to pick one or the other for the season. Anybody know differently?
