Default Who's hitting the first day?

Just a quick poll to see who's hitting the Opener of the Russian next Wednesday?

I'm supposed to be down there with a couple buddies. We'll see, as work may get in the way.

I've got a spot in the campground reserved the first 3 nights but I'm thinking about not using it

I've had some "great" first days down there but things seem to be kind of late this year

    Last year was killer!

    Default Newsflash...

Last Sunday a guy dipping the mouth of the Kenai was remarking that there were a lot of Reds bumping his net as he was scooping up hooligan...

let's see here... average 10 day run from mouth to Russian... Sunday was June 1st... the opener is June 11th.... I'M SO FREAKING THERE!

That hurts brian, hurts bad. Actually in 05 and 06 I took june and july off and just fished. Never left the kenai peninsula. Wife had to come south to see me. That was a blast. Shooting for that in 09. There is just something about having my house, eating, gas money etc etc. Id do a suicide run but untill a few reports come in i dont think it is worth it yet. Then again as i get older those midnight runs and straight to work are painfull.

Yeah, I did that in 05 and 06 as well. And in 07. I think I might do it again in 09, 10, 11....and maybe 12.

Ha! Alas, some of those toys have been broken for a while, and others my brother has laid claim to as his own. I'm not complaining, though. 60+ hour weeks during the school year are a distant memory once summer rolls around.

Fair enough. On a side note. The pictures of the kids you took fishing. Are those Krista ( god I think that is your sisters name) and Joes kids. Joe used to be my expediter when I worked in eagle river.

    Default Maybe true, maybe not.

Got a report from some locals in Sterling that Bings was producing "okay" last night about 2am. I'm not going to be able to make the opener after all... *sigh* and the midnight run from Wasilla is just plain painful. Oh to be 25 again...

I was just at Fish & Game to take care of some paperwork and got to talking to a couple of the guys there. They were not negative but... They were saying that from the data they have, they expect many more people fishing the Russian then there will be fish to be caught on the opener. They based that on history of late springs like this year, and what they have seen so far in the lower Kenai. Be advised that they did end the conversation with, "but you never know..." Good luck to all that will be there. I am still undecided.

    Default Russian River weir...

Anybody know if the weir is up and "fish tight"?

Counts usually start in earnest the second week of June... HMMMM... that's this weekend!
