    Default Moose Shed

Well, it's been awhile ...thought I would throw one in from last weekends 40-mile float down Moose Creek and Deshka River ...

    Nice composition.

So how was Moose Creek? What were you floating it in and was there enough water? I'm thinking of doing this later in the year.

The three of us floated it in a 14' self-bailer raft. It did well but we had lots of water. The fly-fishing was poor at best(early season?). We did pick up some nice fish at the confluence of the Deshka ...grayling and 'bows, Both types of fish up to 16". We did about 40-miles in 2.5-days and pulled out at Neil Lake with a float plane waiting for us. A lot of rowing! If you do that drift, plan for more time. I am sure that the water will be down and you will no doubt be dragging across gravel bars more than once.

Be cautious of moose with calves. We had a stand off with a cow who's calf was on the opposite side of the river. She wanted to kick our buts and bad. We helled back in some still water and waited for them to move off(1-hour)

Good luck and let me know how you do.
