    Default Bear gun

Thought i'd share some pictures of my new bear gun. Marlin 1895XLR 45-70. She wears Wild West Guns rear ghost ring and Williams Firesight front sight, bead blasted, trigger adjusted to just under 3 lbs and wears a custom cheekpad with 5 loops and custom Slimline leather sling. Those are 420 gr Garrett Hammerheads sitting in those loops.

I believe that will put him down for the count.

I like the heavy hardcast with the .45-70, it is real medicine for bear-have taken a few big interior grizz out with 405's on up. The recoil around 1800 - 1900fps is pretty stout but.....managable.

One handy brush gun you got there.

    AK Hunter,

Have you ever tried the 540 gr Garrett Hammerheads? Talk about thumpers! I have two Marlin 45/70s and the 540 grainers won't eject a loaded round out of the older one. (It is a first year production B model from 1971) My newer Marilin unloads them just fine...

I'm planning to talk to Stan Jackson about making the ejection port a little bigger....

Very nice! I want one too.

With the 24" barrel and the ghost ring, what would you consider your comfortable long shot?

Nice rifle, I like the Marlin, I have an old Guide Gun and carry it guiding summers on the rivers. I've never tried the cast bullets where can you by them? I've been loading up with the Win. Supreme 300gr nosler Part.
