    Default Another Penn Bear

MY buddy went down for a quick trip last week ( I had a chance but didn't go) Here is his report:

Thought you might enjoy this exceptional bear I took last week. The skull is 29”. The hide squared 11’-6” and weighed 127 pounds after field fleshed. The first picture with the hide folded in half gives a real idea of how big this thing was. From nose to back feet is 14’. The back foot print was 15” from heel to claw tip. Its forearms at the elbow, after skinning, were a little larger than the diameter of a basketball. Estimated weight is about 1100. In the fall it would have been a 1500 pound bear. I’ll bet this one ate ten foot bears for entertainment.

    Default More of the story

Talked to my buddy and here is some of the story. He went downe there to help pick up some freinds plane and had a couple of days to kill so he went in the field and set up camp. Started to glass and found this one within 5 minutes out about a mile. Hiked to it and got within about 60 yards. Took 4 shots to put it down, Broke both shoulders, one through the lungs and one through the Heart. He did this solo, and was hoping to have it drop on the first shot, so things would not get to exciting. After the first shot, the bear headed for the brush and he got in 3 more before he went down. Quite a chore skinning by him self and about a mile pack with the hide back to camp. Oh and he said he saw another one that was bigger, not nessacarily longer, but much heavier.

    Default tough act to follow

You've ruined it for the rest of us. Everything is going to look small compared to that. Please keep us informed as to what the fish and game boys have to say about him and what the official score comes to. thanks for sharing.
