    Default First BLOOD: Ship Creek

Here's a photo my friend Kirby took this morning at Ship. I caught this beautiful 30+ pound female chromer around 7:20 AM with a yarn fly.

There were just a few fish moving and rolling up by the wire and I hooked one after an hour of fishing (started at 6AM) which I promptly pulled lose in my excitement, then hooked and landed this one about a half hour later.

So, they're there. It's just hit or miss still. Glad I hit! I'm stokin' up the smoker now...

    Default Dude!

    You are just drop-dead awesome!

Make sure you vacuum process a chunk for me and throw it the freezer. I'll be looking for it when we meet up in July...

Thanks guys. What a blast! Just to keep things on the up-and-up: I just weighed it at 35 pounds plus change, and when I opened it up it was a male...

Wow, that's a sweet-looking chrome beauty. Truly an awesome sight. Well done!

As I was crossing the bridge headed towards Government Hill about 8:25 a.m., I someone just below the wire bent down and leaning toward the water. There was a lot of splashing in front of him, so it appeared that the guy was trying to land a fish. Maybe two kings were pulled out this morning!

Time to dust off the gear and head down the river with everyone else...

Just take a bit of hot pink or safety orange fishing yarn (like what you can get at B&J's, Wal-Mart etc.), do a snell knot on your hook, stick the yarn through the "egg loop" on the back of the snell knot and pull 'er tight. Its easy. Crude but effective.

Thumbs up I would like to write the sequel

I was down there today for the high tide and not so much as nothing. I was fishing roe and thought I might have had something when I saw my rod move suddenly, but then I noticed the guy across the way had crossed my line with his vibrax... That is a nice fish... I have been skunked there 4 days/nights in a row now, grrrr. Congrats!

    Default he was

fishing an outgoing low - almost at the low....

Me thinks them fishies git a wee bit nervous when the water comes down and they scoot for the nest or next hole and become more aggressive - just my .02 tho.

I am thinking of going down tonight...

us newbies (speaking for myself) need to realize that these times when there are only 2 fish in the river that it is most likely the pro's that are going to get the fish - or those who have lots of time to spend on the H2O.
