    Default RV camping

I wasnt sure exactly where to post this and figured that this was as good of a place as any..

My brother and I are renting and RV (July 2008) and Plan on hiking, fishing and sightseeing around Alaska. I was wondering what the rules were regarding roadside camping. If I have an RV is a campground/site necessary every night or can one pull off the side of the road and hit the hay?

    Thanks
    Jeff

You will be able to pull off the road where there is space and camp as long as there are no "No Camping" signs at the pullouts. There are many pullouts along the few highways here in AK and many are observation points or parking areas for trail heads in which that camping is not allowed, just pay attention to the sign postings and you will find some good, free camper parking; of course, everyone else will be looking for those free areas as well so you may end up paying at a designated camping area just to get a spot near the hiking area you want.
