    Default Lycoming 540

I know this isn't really the forum for airboat question but it is more an airplane engine question. I recently bought a small airboat with a 540 Lycoming engine. I took it up the Deshka this weekend and I had it over heat 3 times before I made it 9 miles up the Deshka. Coming out same thing. The last time it got HOT and started blowing oil out of one of the lines. Not sure if I damaged the engine or not. Any ideas what would make it over heat so fast? Any ideas just PM me so not to tie up this forum. Thanks

That's designed to be an air cooled engine. It needs baffling to direct the air around the cylinders for cooling. It also needs a large oil cooler with cool air directed thru the cooler. Those are the 2 most important items for cooling on a 540.
