    Default ANOTHER Whittier ramp question

At low tide which ramp is better, the west (first ramp) or east (second ramp)?
Looks like a low tide launch on Friday unless we make it down early; it’s going to be our first so just looking for advice.

Also, from looking at this photo I might throw an old bike in the truck and chain it to pole for the return trip.

i have always launched at the second ramp. easier to launch(space for turning and traffic) at low tide your trailer may fall off end of ramp. mine has just ease it forward slowly so your traior does not get damaged. if it is that low. i have launched at very low tide. make sure you come in to pull when there is still enough water or it gets kinda scary. pulling boat and trailer back onto ramp. have a good weekend and i'm going down on saturday morning so see you there.jeff

    Default Whittier Launch

At low tide the west ramp often goes dry.

Walk the ramp and have a look if your not familiar. On some tides the East ramp also goes nearly dry. I've found that the tight side usually has a gentler drop off the end. Conditions change often.
