    Default Details

Congrats on a great bear, now hows about some details...

How long had you been hunting that day before spotting him...

How far away was he when you saw him...

How did the stalk go, what did you shoot him with, how far away was he when you shot, and how many shots?

THANKS MDHUNTER, IT WAS DAY 15 OF MY HUNT. WIND BLOWING ABOUT 40 MPH & POURING RAIN COULD NOT GLASS SO WERE WALKING JUST OFF STREAM BED BLOWING ON A FAWN IN DISTRESS CALL. LIKE WE HAD 300 TIMES PRIOR. WHEN THE BIG BROWNIE CAME AT A FULL GALLOP OUT OF THE ALDERS.HE REALIZED I WAS NOT A DEER @ ABOUT 40YARDS. HE SPUN AROUND & I GOT ONE ROUND FROM MY .340 WEATHERBY W/250GRAINERS INTO HIM AS HE DISAPPEARED INTO THE ALDERS. POURING RAIN BUT THERE WAS LOTS OF BLOOD TRACKED ABOUT 300 YARDS THRU ALDERS & SPRUCE. HEARD A TWIG SNAP IN THE ALDERS THERE WAS THE BROWNIE LOOKING AT ME 10 YARDS AWAY.

    Default very nice

Looks like you stuck with it and prevailed. Sounds like a little bravery in the mix blowing the call and pretending to be part of the food chain in weather like that Very nice bear.

    Default Nice bear

15 days of hunting paid off. Congrats on a fine specimen from Kodiak. So the staring at you at 10 yards, did you put one in to end him, or was he dead, I feel like we all were shorted on the ending of the story. Don't make us pick which ending. tell us

SORRY I DID NOT FINISH THE STORY. WHEN WE WERE EYE TO EYE AT 10 YARDS. I SHOT HIM JUST UNDER HIS CHIN TO FINISH THE JOB. OF COURSE HE DIED IN THE CREEK FACE DOWN. IT TOOK 3 OF US TO JUST ROLL HIM OVER FOR PICTURES. I WAS ON KODIAK FOR 18 DAYS & IT RAIN ON 15 OF THEM. STILL AWESOME HUNT

    Congratulations on a great bear!
My main concern with using the "fawn in distress call", as described, would be the circumstances of the call being responded to by a sow accompanied by cubs and the possible subsequent decision to "shoot" without the knowledge about the cubs.
However, that in no way, in this situation detracts from the fact yours is a excellent trophy. Congratulations!
