Default Valdez Halibut Charter Recommendations Please

We'll be in Valdez late August this year and want to take a Halibut charter.
We've never been there so we're wondering:
#1 - What charter companies would you recommend
#2 - How long is the boat ride to where the fish are
#3 - Is it even worth doing a 1/2 day charter

    Thanks for your help!

Start calling fast. Many are already booked for the year.

1st choice for me would be No Excuses captained by Dave B.

You are looking at around a 2 1/2 hour run out and the same back.

No half day charters unless you are silver fishing. Which will be hot, at that time.

    Question Daveinthebush

Do you know if Captain Dave B. is still doing the charter thing or did he take a job for an oil company? i know talking to him last June he had been made an offer and he was considering it.

if he left the fishing charter business, that was a HUGE loss to his clients!

Capt. Dave Wiley, on the Dan Orion, www.orioncharters.com. He typically goes 2 1/2 hours to 4 hours out. I would recommend him to anyone wanting to go after big 'buts.

    Default Dave

Dave is still going to be working as a charter captain. The job that he was offered did not happen so he is back to fishing.

    Smile captain dd

thanks for answering my question about dave b. it makes sense the job did not come thru given the drilling did not happen. i am glad dave will continue to captain a fishing boat because i have alot of respect for him.

    happy fishing to you!
