i am sure there are plenty of study uides on line to get you tuned up to be able to take the test. big thing about that is that you have to go to the regional exam center to take the test, it is open book for the most part. just the fact that it is long and there is alot of material that yyou need to know that you will never use in Alaskan waters. Though it is great to be a wealth off knowledge, there is a lot of STUFF on the test.
school is a pretty good way to go. just remember to be keeping track of you trip these days to help you document sea time that is one of the hardest things to do.

Quite frankly, I feel at least part of the test should be on the water. It's bad enough that it can all be accomplished in a classroom, let alone on-line.

Te test is easy. I mean E-A-S-Y. It is primarily common sense knowledge. Just took a class/test last month. Now comes the trying part: dealing with the Da Gub'mint in the form of the coasties next time I'm in Anch.

The test isn't that bad, but there is a lot of information to retain. The rules of the road is the common sense part ( need to score an 90%), but the charting section is tough because there is such a small margin of error in each question ( I think you need a 70% in this section) . If you guys are looking at getting your 6 pack you should take the little bit of extra time and money and try to get your 100 or 50 ton. With this endorsement you can at least keep upgrading as you get more time, where a OUPV or 6 pack doesn't allow you to go any further. the coasties weren't bad to deal with at all as long as you have all of your stuff together when you show up. good luck

I just got my license in the mail last weekend. It took 10 weeks, from the time they received my paperwork in West Virginia.
