Wow! cool pics thanks for sharing. How big was the set in your pictures?

The 1600 ton set you mention is mind blowing. I used to fish herring in Togiak during the 90's and I thought the old record was ~700 ton. The boat I fished made a 611 ton set the year before I went out there, and that was at least at the time a Togiak record, then a few years later I think I heard about the 700 ton set.

dave what boat you are talking about. my aunt sent the pics whom she received from a freind that was participating. sounds like some of the petersburg fishermen did real well.

    Default That explains it all!

All the west coast salmon are coming north to feed on Alaska herring.
    Yay global warming!

    Default Well, lets see now...

Pollock fisheries are scooping up millions of pound of salmon bycatch, Commercial fishermen are scooping up millions of tons of Salmon, Commercial fisherman are scooping up millions of tons of salmon food (herring) Belugas, Orca, sea lions, are all protected,(they eat salmon) Subsistence & Sport fishing are eating away at the population, Trout & Pike are eating up salmon...

You have to wonder how much longer Alaska's wild salmon are going to last...
