I understand there are no moose on Kodiak Island - are there caribou and/or black bear on the island? Are there any moose on any of the neighboring islands?

How far south can caribou be found - any in Yakutat area or even further down the panhandle? I ask because I have seen video of caribou hunting on the Stikine river (which ends just north of Wrangell in southeast) yet there is no information in the hunting regulations regarding caribou in southeast. I assume the hunting video is footage of a hunt made deep into Canada and the caribou do not cross the mountains to the coast?

There are caribou on Kodiak which were transplanted there. There are not black bears on the island, however. There are no moose on the neighboring islands, though both Raspberry and Afognak Islands host introduced elk herds.

There are not caribou in Southeast AK or anywhere in the vicinity of Yakutat.

Furthest south I've ever seen them was off petersville road way way back in. Were talking miles past the gorge and the end of the road.

Seen what? Caribou?? If so, there are some way further south than that. The Kenai Mountains herd is south of here, and I some of the AK Peninsula caribou are further south as well.

Oh, and there are Talkeetna Mountains caribou further south as well. I couldn't find them last year when I had the permit, but they exist somewhere out there. :)

I have seen the Talkeetna boo on one occasion in the early-mid 90's and we had hiked in from hatchers pass. We were probably 7 miles or so north of the road and they skylined about another mile and a half. I didn't have a permit and the hike would have been brutal with meat. At the time I didn't realize there was a herd anwhere near that area!
