Hi we are from Dawson City and would love to find out more information on fishing in Valdez, we have a 21 foot Harbercraft jetboat with a 3 stage Kodiak pump that we will be bringing. We only fish for lake trout, white fish and grayling here so I am thinking we will need heavier gear and can these things be purchased locally? This will be our first trip into Valdez and i have heard from friends that the fishing is great there.
Any info will be greatly appreciated!!

are you coming? July the silvers start showing up. halibut can be OK but you have go out aways. Your boat will do just fine, just watch the weather.

The first thing you should have is a good maping GPS. It will help in the fog and keep you out of the security zone. May there are some kings available for those who like to troll. End of June pinks show up and can be landed in the port. Last two weeks of July silvers start coming in and are usually deep. Halibut fishing you will be traveling to some of the following area's. Closest is Jacks Bay at 11 miles, Saw Mill Bay, Galenna Bay, Bly Reef, Glacier Island, Goose Island, Nolls Head, Red Head, and Naked Island. As far as gear goes 30 pound class salmon pole with mono can handle any thing that you are likely to catch. Fish Central rents halibut rods and reels. Renyolds Alaska LLC is a new sporting goods store with good prices and lots of gear. Do not know if they rent poles. The new manager is Don Thomas his number is 907-835-4410. my web site has my contact information if you need help.
