Thread: Share your Rifles

We all seem to have our likes and dislikes on rifles. But lets start a thread showing off some of your guns.

The gun below is my custom Model 70 .270 that has successfully taken the Idaho Slam. 2 shots needed on the goat and a big 330 elk, other than that, 1 shot, 1 kill.

Warning thread....well not hijack but deviation. I and everyone I grew up with back in Michigan were raised to believe asking "how many guns do you have" is like asking "whats the kinkiest position your wife likes?" then following it up with "Got any Pictures?" In other words very rude. Anyone else have a similar experience growing up?

I'm not making the connection between showing a picture of ones favorite guns vs mother doing it upside down and backwards?

EKC...that's funny! Got a good laugh...

However, as RP asked I do remember my dad making it clear to me to never tell people what guns we had...I think it was more to protect from theft...although we never locked the doors at the farm.

All that said, I'll try to post a picture of my .375 H&H & .454 SRH (highly modified), but I have not had much luck getting pictures on the forum in the past.

I've heard of wife swapping but I'd never thought anyone was so perverted as to even mention sharing their guns! Even in this word overan with greenies and liberals we have to draw the line somewhere.

Well where I grew up it was considered very rude, almost decked the first guy who asked me. Of course I grew up i a small town and if you were rude to anyone or farted at the A&P by the time you got home Mom not only knew what you did but she had decided what your punishment was.

BTW my work horse is a savage tactical in 300 win mag, I have a Leupold 3-9 x 50 mounted on it. Ugly as sin but it's a tack driver.

This is my thumper. I would like to get a couple bears with it. 500 S&W handi rifle.

I was also taught by my father not to talk about the guns we owned with other people. He explained that thieves find guns to be very attractive. IMHO unless your adding in your home address I dont think this thread would cause any harm. We talk about our guns in all the hunting forums.

Bwhite, yeah they are good calibers. mine has a 20" bbl on it. right now I got everything I need to make another. its gonna be on a VZ-24 action with a 24" bbl topped with a weaver 2.5x with irons. I somehow came into another 9.3 bbl and had a vz action laying around, funny how things work out sometimes.

I find all the chat about "dont ask about my guns" a little humorous since that is all anyone in this forum ever talks about, i.e. talk all about all their guns and their loads, post pictures, etc. etc.

Anyway, my bread and butter has been a Ruger M77 7mm Rem Mag with B&L 2 1/5 - 10 x 40 scope for the last 20 years. I've shot a B&C (185) big horn ram with it, a 316 6x6 bull elk (in Idaho) and numerous deer and antelope. The shortest shot was 15 yds and the longest 425. It aint real pretty but has served me well and will soon be retired by a Sako Finnlight 300 WSM topped with a NF 5 1/5 - 22 x 50

I agree with the sentiment that not talking about your guns is a way to avoid theft and since this is a pretty anonymous forum it makes it acceptable (in my opinion) to share our firearms. I would imagine in a very small towns it could be a real concern if people knew what guns you have in your home. I don't think it's an issue in this forum. I also doubt that the thieves are using AOD forums as a way to scope out possible targets for a heist.

That said, I'll take a picture of my Rem 700 in 7mag w/ leupold fixed 6 scope. It's nothing special, but it's my stand by. Also, would anyone be opposed to me showing off my bubba'd SKS. I know it's not a hunting rifle but I sure had fun making it.

Isn't Michigan pretty much a socialist state like Massachusetts? That's probably why talking about your guns was a DIRTY subject

Interesting... this doesn't seem to be an issue in Montana. No one that I know of has any problem about people asking or talking about guns. Of course crime is very low here, and it's a safe bet that most folks here have multiple guns, especially outside of town, and if you break into someones home you might get shot. You just dont hear about homes being broke into around here. Infact, I have never locked my door in the 7 years I have lived where I am (in the country), but I did lock it in town when I lived there.

I know where Rick is coming from. There are those who would feast on the idea of knowing where a stash of guns might be found. However the dozen that I actually use are locked up tighter than Fort Knox. The one that isn't under lock and key right now is actually still strapped to my side and when I go to bed it will be in arms reach just in case one of those undesirables decides to come visiting in the night.

The upside down and backwards post was mere humor. No offense intended!

My favorite all time rifle is my little 1894 Marlin 44mag followed second by my first gun a 514 Remington 22. They are pretty plain so I'll save my pictures for a couple of builds that I am working on right now (only when they are done).
