Default Do you carry a back up

Just wondering if you carry a backup when hunting, or fishing and what you like. How and why did you decide on what you carry.

Pretty much depends on what I am doing. Sheep hunting, no way. Shopping in Anchorage....

I don't even notice my 329PD when I have to swim with it on. I do notice it when I shoot it though. I feel a lot better always having it with me in the woods.

It depends on the situation... I chose two in the poll.

Hunting with a partner for big game, no.

Hunting grouse with a partner and we have .22s, yes.

    Hunting alone, yes.

I carry a hnadgun when fishing or hiking, when I'm hunting i'm already carrying a rifle so I leave the pistol in camp or in the atv box.

    When hunting I may carry a 454 casull or a 41 mag.

It is usually during the gun season that I am carrying the 454 casull. If I get close enough I will use the handgun and actually consider the rifle the backup weapon.

During bow season I carry my 41 mag as it is very light and is just for protection.

I also carrying the 41 while fishing.

In town I carry a pocket pistol.

Only when fishing, though I might start carrying my 44mag while bowhunting as well.

    Default Yep Always

carry my LAR 45 Win Mag! I'm an archer so I carry my pistol and when I'm bear baiting I also carry my 12 ga full of slugs (buckshot is for birds!) I just carry my bow slung over my shoulder.
My hunting partner learned a good lesson last spring we were in my tree stand had a brown bear climb up the tree we were in (by the way they climb really well and FAST too!)and we had to shoot it, I shot it twice and he shot it once with his 45/70 and it jammed and he didn't have his pistol as back up so he basically had a $600 club he swore he'd never hunt without his pistol again.

I carry my 454 Alaskan all the time before that it was a 44 eagle. Never know when you might think it's just right over there and the worst happens. So far I've never had to use them for bear's. But acouple of time been really glad I've had a gun.

I carry a 12 for fishing unless someone in our group has one, then I'll let them carry it.

I really prefer to let my back-up carry himself. As I am to busy packin my 44 mag and other gear

    Default yes

Always carry my back-up (except sheep or goat hunting). I like being in the habit of keeping it on me like a piece of clothing. I set my rifle down near camp, or when getting water or bathroom breaks. I am overly cautious about tons of stuff. My partners and I carry an ACR beacon and sat phone also (those usually stay in the boat or at camp).

While fishing and (bow) Hunting I always carry my hand gun. I always like to be prepared just in case............

I'm one of the guys that clicked "waste of time". I've honestly only carried my pistol around humans in the last few years. When I head to the woods I simply just want to be as light and free as possible..even when bowhunting or fishing. Call me crazy..
